MG U9 Arrives: Is This the New Revo Challenger?

MG has officially introduced its first-ever pickup truck in Pakistan, the MG U9. It's a great deal as the company is best known for its electric and hybrid vehicles, but here it is going in a different direction with a powerful diesel 4X4.

What does the MG U9 offer?

Here’s what it offers;

  • Engine & Powertrain: The U9 is powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. It’s mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox.
  • Performance: It delivers around 215 hp and 520 Nm of torque, which is quite strong and a preferable choice for both city driving and off-road use.
  • 4X4 Capacity: The U9 boasts a full 4X4 drivetrain, featuring front and rear differential locks, which lend it serious off-road capability.
  • Towing & Clearance: The U9 can tow up to 3500 kg and has a ground clearance of 220mm, making it an ideal choice for heavy-duty usage.
  • Size: The dimensions are pretty large, measuring 5,500 mm in length, 2,265 mm in width, and 1,874 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,300 mm.

Interior & Comfort

MG U9 provides excellent comfort. Inside;

  • Driver’s seat: 8-way electric adjustment, 4-way lumbar support, heating, ventilation and massage.
  • Passenger seat: 6-way electric + heating.
  • Steering wheel: 4-way adjustable, heated.
  • Infotainment: Big 12.3-inch touchscreen, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a JBL 8-speaker sound system.
  • Other niceties Include Rear AC vents, an electric tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, wireless charging, and a panoramic sunroof.

Safety & Technology

MG U9 is seriously concerned about safety and technology, featuring 7 airbags, L2-level ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), a 540° camera system, and driver-attention monitoring.

Competition & Market Positioning

MG clearly aims for a niche as MG U9 is a perfect pick for work and equally stylish for routine life. In Pakistan, it will compete with the Toyota Revo and the Isuzu D-Max, the two most competitive diesel pickups in the market.

MG follows a smart strategy, i.e., it offers upscale comfort and genuine off-road capability, so it could easily challenge Revo’s dominance in both personal and commercial usage.

Bottom Line

The U9 is a very well-rounded pickup. Its diesel engine and 4×4 system give it real utility for work, while features like massage seats, a prominent touchscreen, JBL audio, and a sunroof elevate it into a premium lifestyle category.

MG U9 is a suitable option for both commercial and private buyers, making it a smart move in Pakistan’s growing pickup market.

However, the potential risk includes the high price (i.e., 80 lakh), so MG needs to convince buyers that the extra money is worth the comfort due to advanced technology and power. For traditional buyers, affordability and maintenance costs will be the key consideration points.

If MG can deliver reliably, the U9 could reshape how Pakistanis think about pickups: not just work vehicles, but desirable, powerful, comfortable trucks.
